Board of Directors, Curriculum Development
Camp Name: Bobber
“Because of the lifelong connections and sense of belonging I’ve experienced throughout my time at camp, the mission of the Pony Barnes Foundation speaks to me on a fundamental level. These are experiences that all people should have. I am proud to be a part of an organization working hard to ensure the LGBTQ+ community feels that sense of belonging and experiences all of the magic that camp has to offer.”
Cindy Norris (she/her), AKA Bobber, joined the Pony Barnes Foundation Board in January 2021. She brings a strong organizational aptitude and a desire to continue the Montecito Sequoia ideals, fostered by Dr. Virginia Barnes, of inspiring the love of learning through camp experiences. Her lifelong connection with Montecito as a camper, counselor in leadership training, and counselor influenced her own educational philosophies in her 20 year career as an elementary classroom teacher and director of curriculum and staff development.
While raising her three children, Cindy volunteered in many educational arenas: school site council president, parent’s association president, community service director, district budget advisory committee, art docent coordinator, principal hiring panel, and school strategic planning representative. Retired from the classroom, Cindy mentors and coaches Induction for new teachers as they clear their California credentials through the San Mateo County Office of Education. Cindy’s passions include hiking with her dogs, cycling, and spending time in the mountains with family.
