Steven's Story

Steven Lei (he/him) is a highly experienced non-profit board leader and offers his expertise in organizational strategy and business operations, including finance, human resources, and risk management. He is Assistant Vice President for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery at East West Bank, a publicly traded commercial bank with over 120 locations in the U.S. and Greater China markets. Prior to East West Bank, he held strategic roles in finance, operations, and crisis management at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the University of California System, and served as a risk consultant at Facebook. 

 

His current and previous board service includes, BluPeak Credit Union, a $1B member-owned financial institution; Opera Parallèle, a San Francisco-based contemporary opera company, the Institute of Human Behavior, Research, and Education (Phillips Academy), a special education school in Alameda, CA; and the Chinese Historical Society of America and Museum, the oldest Chinese heritage organization in the country.

 

Steven earned his Bachelor’s degree at the University of California, San Diego and Master’s degree at the London School of Economics, and completed executive education at the Yale School of Management. Steven is the son of Chinese American immigrants and was the first in his family to attend college. Based in Los Angeles, he is an avid rower (sculling), LA Clippers fan, and frequently attends performances at the LA Phil, Hollywood Bowl, and the LA Opera.
